Federación Ecuatoriana de Indios
The Federación Ecuatoriana de Indios (FEI, Ecuadorian Federation of Indians) was the first successful attempt in Ecuador to establish a national federation for and by Indigenous peoples. These are documents from and about the federation.

A letter written in Spanish and Kichwa from Dolores Cacaungo for the FEI, Ricardo Paredes as the Functional Deputy for the Indians, and Luis Alvaro as the secretary-general of the Indigenous Defense Committee calling on labor unions, Indigenous defense committees, cooperatives, tribes, comunas, and other Indian organizations and population centers to attend the Second Congress of Ecuadorian Indians at the Sucre Theater in Quito in February of 1946.

In December of 1946 when president José María Velasco Ibarra imprisoned student and worker leaders for challenging his increasingly dictatorial policies, Luis F. Alvaro published a circular in the name of the FEI's Executive Committee calling for their liberty because “the accused have defended and helped Ecuadorian Indians to gain many of their demands.”
